Oh how I wish for a good nights sleep!
Since being diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and being prescribed a CPAP machine, I doubt I've had a good nights sleep in the last week. It took me a few days to get accustomed to having the mask on my face, but that isn't the big hurdle. The problem is that I sleep on my side and a conventional pillow does not work well as it causes the mask to shift and I lose the seal. I looked into a few options for custom pillows, designed for CPAP users. They average around $50 but I think it will be a worthwhile investment.
I have talked to a few friends who also suffer with this condition and they confirmed that it took a few weeks to get in the swing of it. I just hope that in the end, this lack of sleep is worth it.
My wife on the other hand is the real winner here. She says that after several months of my intrusive snoring and gasping, she can finally sleep through the night...lucky her. While I don't begrudge her the rest, I just wish that it was the both of us who were reaping the benefits.
Last night I had such an ordeal just getting the mask on right, that after hours of being uncomfortable I gave up and took it off. I might have slept two hours total but was up at 4:30 AM getting ready for work. I used the time to my advantage and played one of my new Xbox360 games for a few hours while my eggs boiled and pets snoozed.
I'll give it another try tonight. I may even try going to bed a little earlier...yeah right :P.
